Kaizen : The Key To Japan's Competitive SuccesThe motto of Kaizen, printed in the "kaizen" manual: "Quick and simple is better than slow and elegant." Having read this motto at 7:30 this morning, it took several minutes of repeated regurgitation before I was able to normal bodily and mental functioning.
As meeting day three draws to a close, I have learned:
1. I have not a business mind.
2. Attempting rushed feats of entirely too large of a magnitude in entirely too short of a timeframe is greatly hindered when:
A. One needs two computers (one mac, one pc) to complete these tasks
B. Both of said computers are sitting, disconnected, in the corner of one's disassembled art department awaiting a team of maintenance men to move them and for a team of IT people to reassemble them after said maintenance crew disassembles cubicles/offices on floor two of building and reassembles them on floor one of building
C. One must locate substitute PC (not in use) with required software installed somewhere in very large building to use as a replacement for one's disassembled PC
D. One must locate substitute MAC (not in use) with required software installed somewhere in very large building to use as a replacement for one's disassembled MAC. Said MAC must also be connected to high quality color printer. (Note 1: MACs are generally only used for graphic art purposes in building, and all graphic artists' computers have been disassembled, see "B," leaving ONE functioning Macintosh computer in entire building. Note 2: Entire building consists of three floors, one of which functions mostly as a factory filled with toxic fumes which, over time, cause one to develop chronic lung diseases and/or cancer. It is assumed that said diseases develop more rapidly, logically, when one is running through factory repeatedly, taking in tainted oxygen at a much more rapid pace than normal, while attempting to locate single functioning Macintosh computer that is connected to only remaining functioning high quality printer in building.)
E. One must transfer files between PC and MAC in order to complete assigned task. Having set up a personal means of file sharing between one's own PC and MAC makes this process rather simple. However, due to "B," said process is rendered "moot." Thus, communication between PC in office A and MAC in office B takes much ingenuity. Said ingenuity must be immediate, and therefore must be terribly frustrating and must spring forth from a series of connecting and disconnecting to a series of servers, many of which are not accessible from either the PC in question or the Mac in question.
The moral of the story: become a rock star.
